Abstract

The present invention relates to the field of plant extracts, and provides use of a compound and composition thereof for manufacture of a medicine for enhancing mitochondrial activity of nerve cells,wherein the compound is selected from the group consisting of trans-p-coumaryl alcohol, trans-p-acetoxycinnamoyl alcohol, and chavicol [beta]-D-glucopyranoside. The present invention also provides useof a composition for manufacture of a medicine for enhancing mitochondrial activity of nerve cells, wherein the composition includes any one of said compounds or combinations thereof. Said compound enhances mitochondrial activity of nerve cells and also inhibits reactive oxygen species generation, thereby having the potential to protect nerve cells and prevent neurodegenerative diseases.
