The preparation method comprises the following steps: (1) preparing biochar; (2) conducting modification treatment: soaking the original biochar in a ferric trichloride solution, conducting stirring, carrying out solid-liquid separation, collecting solids, and conducting drying and pyrolyzing to obtain iron-based biochar; and (3) conducting in-situ polymerization: mixing polyvinyl alcohol with water, conducting heating and stirring to obtain an emulsion, then adding the iron-based biochar, uniformly conducting stirring, then adding a foaming agent, then adding a sulfuric acid solution and a formaldehyde solution, uniformly conducting stirring, pouring the stirred system into a mold, and conducting drying and foaming to obtain the iron-based biochar sponge composite material.
