AI Technical Summary

Problems solved by technology

Conventional treatment of fabrics with modifying additives such as softeners, hardeners, and lubricants imparts desired properties to commercially available fabrics, but generally increases the lipophilicity of the fabric, thereby significantly increasing the fabric's propensity to accept oily stains , the ability to remove stains decreases significantly after washing

Embodiment 1-10 and comparative example C-1

[0124] In Examples 1-10, the fluoride composition of the present invention was prepared and emulsified according to the above-mentioned general method. Polyester / cotton (PES / CO) blends were treated with the fluorochemical composition to obtain 0.3% or 0.6% SOF. After treatment, the fabric was dried at 150°C for 3 minutes. The treated PES / CO substrate was stained with dirty motor oil using the drip method. Comparative Example C-1 was made with untreated PES / CO fabric. Table 3 shows the results of stain releasability, oil repellency and water repellency.

[0125] Example number

[0126] These data indicate that all fluorochemical compositions provide good to very good DMO stain release performance.

Embodiment 11-18 and comparative example C-2

[0128] In Examples 11-18, the same experiment as above was repeated, but this time DMO was used to stain the fabric by brushing. Comparative Example C-2 was made with untreated PES / CO fabric. Table 4 shows the results of stain releasability, oil repellency and water repellency.

[0129] Example number

[0130] The results show that even in the more severe brushing process, good DMO stain release was observed on the fabrics treated with the fluorochemical composition. It is a further advantage that the fluorochemical composition provides not only good DMO stain release to fabrics but also moderate to high oil and water repellency.

Embodiment 19-26 and comparative example C-3

[0132] In Examples 19-26, the same type of test as above was repeated on 100% cotton substrates treated with the fluorochemical composition according to the general procedure described above. DMO staining was performed on cotton substrates by brushing. Comparative Example C-3 was made with untreated cotton fabric. Table 5 shows the results of stain releasability, oil repellency and water repellency.

[0133] Example number

[0134] These data demonstrate that treatment with the fluorochemical composition can provide good percent stain release (%ΔΔL) to oily stains such as DMO on cotton substrates.

Abstract

The present invention provides a method for preparing a fluorochemical composition comprising a urethane by reacting: (A) fluorochemical oligomer of the formula (I): MmMn-Q<1>-T<1> wherein MfmMn represents a fluorochemical oligomer comprising m units derived from fluorinated monomer and n units derived from fluorine-free monomer and wherein the fluorinated monomers and fluorine-free monomers may be the same or different; m is a value of about 2 to 40; n is a value of about 0 to 20; T<1> is an -OH or -NH2 moiety; Q<1> and T<1> together represent an organic residue obtained by removing a hydrogen atom from a chain transfer agent that is functionalized with T<1>; (B) monofunctional compound capable of reacting with an isocyanate and comprising a poly(oxyalkylene) group; (C) isocyanate blocking agent or a fluorine-free oligomer; and (D) isocyanate-reactive compound other than said fluorochemical oligomer, said isocyanate blocking agent, said fluorine-free oligomer and said monofunctional compound; with (E) diisocyanate or a triisocyanate, wherein 33% to 67% of the number of isocyanate groups are reacted with the fluorochemical oligomer according to the formula (I), 33% to 67% of the number of isocyanate groups are reacted with said monofunctional compound, 0 to 33% of the number of isocyanate groups are reacted with an isocyanate blocking agent or a fluorine-free oligomer and 0 to 10% of the number of isocyanate groups are reacted with said isocyanate-reactive compound. Substrates treated with fluorochemical compositions prepared according to the method, have good stain release properties, particularly for oily stains and water based stains such as wine, tea and coffee.

Description

field of invention [0001] The present invention relates to fluorochemical compositions for treating substrates, especially fibrous substrates such as fabrics, to impart stain release properties to these substrates. Background of the invention [0002] Fluorochemical compositions for treating substrates such as leather, fabrics and paper are known, and such fluorochemical compositions can be used to impart various properties to substrates, such as water and / or oil repellency, water repellency , stain release (stain release) and antifouling properties. For example, US Patent No. 5,276,175 discloses isocyanate derivatives comprising fluoride oligomers. Specifically, the disclosed fluorochemical compositions comprise fluorochemicals comprising fluorochemical oligomer moieties, organic moieties, and properties that provide soft hand, stain release properties when the fluorochemicals are applied to fibrous substrates. , a water-repellent or durable group, wherein the fluoride ol...
