Embodiment 1

[0043] Into a 5 L reaction flask equipped with a stirrer, inert gas inlet thermostat, and down-distilling Vigreaux fractionation column, were charged 0.3 equivalents of phthalic anhydride (442.5 g, using a scaling factor), 0.3 equivalents of methane isphthalic acid (497.5 g), 0.29 equivalents of dimer acid (1650 g), 0.3 equivalents of 1,2-propanediol (227.5 g) and 0.9 equivalents of neopentyl glycol (932.5 g). Water is distilled from the reflux while heating under an inert gas stream. The acid value after 21 hours was 3.3. The apparatus was evacuated at 200 mm Hg for 1 hour and then at 4 mm Hg for 17.5 hours. The viscosity of the resulting product is 876 cSt / 99°C, and its density (ρ 25 ) is 1.0441.

Embodiment 2

[0045] Get the product of 500g embodiment 1, handle with the acetylation of 130g acetic anhydride, the acid number of product is 1.2, ρ 25 is 1.0455 and the hydroxyl number is 1.4.

Embodiment 3

[0047] In the product of embodiment 2, add the two-nor-butyltin diacetic acid that accounts for 0.03% of product net weight, then reflux for 40 minutes, and vacuum distillation under 14-2mmHg for 65 minutes, the viscosity of gained product is 1930 cSt / 99 ℃ , ρ 25 is 1.0447.

Abstract

A polyester composition for use in facilitating separation of blood serum or plasma from a cellular portion of blood, the composition containing: (a) a multifunctional acid component comprising: (i) a benzene polycarboxylic acid, and derivatives thereof; and (ii) an aliphatic polycarboxylic acid having from about 16 to about 40 carbon atoms; and (b) a diol component, and wherein the multifunctional acid component and diol component are employed in an equivalent ratio ranging from about 0.8:1.1 to about 1.0:1.3.

Description

Background of the invention [0001] The present invention relates to a polyester for facilitating the separation of serum or plasma from the cellular fraction of blood. The polyesters of the present invention can be conveniently formulated as a partitioning composition for use in blood collection tubes in which the cellular fraction is completely separated from serum or plasma after centrifugation. The unique physical and chemical properties of the dispensing composition allow for the formation of a continuous and integral seal between the separated blood phases, thereby maintaining the separation of these phases after centrifugation and simplifying the removal of serum or plasma from the blood collector operate. High volume testing of blood components in hospitals and clinics has led to the development of various devices that simplify blood sample collection, and simplify sample preparation for analysis. Typically, whole blood is collected in an empty elongated glass tube cl...
