[0018] First prepare SrCO3, Bi2O3, Nb2O5, Ta2O5, Na2CO3, K2CO3, Li2CO3, Nd2O3, La2O3, Ce2O3, Sc2O3, Y2O3, Sm2O3, Gd2O3, Dy2O3, Er2O3, Yb2O3 and MnCO3 as raw materials. These compounds are weighed to satisfy the composition general formula (Sr a Bi b Nb c O9+w mole M1+x mole M3+y mole Ta+z mole MnCO3, wherein M1 is Na, K or Li, M3 is Nd, La, Ce, Sc, Y, Sm, Gd, Dy, Er or Yb, and a, b, c, w, x, y and z are shown in Tables 1 and 2), and wet mixed in a ball mill for about 16 hours. The resulting mixture is dried and then calcined at 800-1000°C. The product is mixed with an appropriate amount of organic binder, dispersant, defoamer, surfactant and pure water, and ground in a ball mill. The resulting slurry was formed into sheets with a thickness of 40-80 microns using a doctor blade. Abstract

A piezoelectric ceramic composition that is based on a layered bismuth compound composed of Sr, Bi, Nb, oxygen, contains an additional monovalent metallic element.
