Aluminum and magnesium are the primary deoxidizers and denitrifiers used in electrodes to deposit a non-porous weld metal. Almost all the magnesium and most of the aluminum present in the electrode ends up in the slag as oxides. However, there is a limit to the maximum amount of aluminum that can be contained in an electrode.
