Methods are provided for depositing amorphous carbon materials. In one aspect, the invention provides a method for processing a substrate including positioning the substrate in a processing chamber, introducing a processing gas into the processing chamber, wherein the processing gas comprises a carrier gas, hydrogen, and one or more precursor compounds, generating a plasma of the processing gas by applying power from a dual-frequency RF source, and depositing an amorphous carbon layer on the substrate.

A dual-band antenna matching system and a method for dual-band impedance matching are provided. The method comprises: accepting a frequency-dependent impedance from an antenna; and, selectively supplying a conjugate impedance match for the antenna at either a first and a second communication band, or a third and a fourth communication band. More specifically, the method comprises: tuning a first tuning circuit to a first frequency; and, simultaneously tuning a second tuning circuit to a second frequency. In response, a conjugate match is supplied to the antenna in the first communication band in response to the first frequency. Simultaneously, the antenna is matched in the second communication band in response to the second frequency. When the first tuning circuit is tuned to a third frequency, and the second tuning circuit is tuned to a fourth frequency, then conjugate matches are supplied for the third and fourth communication bands, responsive to the third and fourth frequencies, respectively.

One or more of the embodiments of a dual band stacked patch antenna described herein employ an integrated arrangement of a global positioning system (GPS) antenna and a satellite digital audio radio service (SDARS) antenna. The dual band antenna receives right hand circularly polarized GPS signals in a first frequency band, left hand circularly polarized SDARS signals in a second frequency band, and vertical linear polarized SDARS signals in the second band. The dual band antenna includes a ground plane element, an upper radiating element (which is primarily utilized to receive SDARS signals), dielectric material between the ground plane element and the upper radiating element, and a lower radiating element (which is primarily utilized to receive GPS signals) surrounded by the dielectric material. The dual band antenna uses only one conductive signal feed to receive both GPS and SDARS signals.

A dual-band antenna is provided that combines two normally disparate communications modes into a single compact aperture minimizing overall mass and volume, while maintaining high performance efficiency and reciprocity of each individual mode. A telecommunication base station transceiver subsystem that can be easily configured to provide single or multi-carrier frequency service. Capacity is increased and diversity reception is maintained from a single to a dual frequency system without the need for additional antennas. The base station is divided into a main unit and a radio unit such that the radio unit is positioned proximate to the antennas and the main unit is remotely located from the radio unit. Furthermore, a single base station transceiver can provide service via multiple wireless protocols, such as CDMA, TDMA, GSM or Analog. An antenna includes a first dipole having first and second stripline radiating elements extending in opposite directions from a central feed point and along a generally rectangular outline of the antenna. The present invention relates to a dual-band omnidirectional antenna for wireless LANs. The antenna has a planar dielectric substrate, and first and second conductive patterns. The planar dielectric substrate has two parallel surfaces. The first conductive pattern is arranged on one surface of the substrate, and is provided with a first feeder line arranged on a longitudinal central line of the substrate and a plurality of radiating elements connected to the first feeder line and designed such that some of them operate in a high frequency band (4.9 to 5.85 GHz frequency band), and others thereof operate in a low frequency band (2.4 to 2.5 GHz frequency band). The second conductive pattern is arranged on the other surface of the substrate, and provided with a second feeder line arranged on a longitudinal central line of the substrate and a plurality of radiating elements connected to the second feeder line arid up-down symmetrically arranged with respect to the radiating elements on the first conductive pattern.

An internal planar antenna for small radio apparatuses. The ground plane (310) of the planar antenna is shaped such that it improves the matching of the antenna. The shaping may be done by means of one or more slots (315, 316) in the ground plane. The slot suitably changes the electrical length of the ground plane as viewed from the short-circuit point (S) so that the ground plane will function as a radiator in an operating band of the antenna. Also the slot (331) in the ground plane can be arranged to function as an additional radiator in an operating band of the antenna. Antenna gain will increase as the matching is improved, and the upper band of a dual band antenna, for example, can be made broader.

A dual frequency band inverted-F antenna used for communicating a low frequency signal and a high frequency signal includes a substrate, a ground metal, a vortical metal structure, a short circuit leg, a feeding leg, and a terminal micro strip. The ground metal and the terminal micro strip are formed on the lower surface of the substrate. The vortical metal structure, formed on the upper surface of the substrate, further has a short circuit end and an open circuit end. The short circuit leg connects electrically the short circuit end of the vortical metal structure with the ground metal. The feeding leg extends along a predetermined direction of the vortical metal structure to couple with a feeding circuit on the substrate. The terminal micro strip connects electrically to the open circuit end through a first conductive aperture. By increasing the encircling number of the vortical metal structure, the coupling effect is generated so that the equivalent wavelength of the high frequency signal can be longer, thus the resonance frequency thereof can be reduced, and so a first frequency can be still kept communicating at a lower frequency band and a second frequency can also be added for communicating at a higher frequency band.

A dielectric etch chamber and method for improved control of plasma parameters. The plasma chamber comprises dual-frequency bias source that capacitively couples the RF energy to the plasma, and a single or dual frequency source that inductively couples the RF energy to the plasma. The inductive source may be modulated for improved etch uniformity.

A radiometric heating/sensing probe for radiating electromagnetic waves of a first frequency capable of heating tissue and detecting electromagnetic waves of a second frequency emitted by the tissue indicating tissue temperature. The probe includes a dual frequency antenna, a signal transmitting path to the antenna and a signal receiving path from the antenna to a radiometer. A diplexer connected between those paths inside the probe includes a quarter wave stub in the form of a shorted slab line-type transmission line in the signal transmitting path. A dual-band antenna, a method of manufacturing the same and a wireless networking card incorporating the antenna. In one embodiment, the antenna includes: (1) a substrate, (2) an inverted F antenna printed circuit supported by the substrate and tuned to resonate in a first frequency band and (3) a monopole antenna printed circuit supported by the substrate, connected to the inverted F antenna printed circuit and tuned to resonate in a second frequency band.

A single stage, single switch, input-output isolated converter configuration which uses a hybrid combination of forward and flyback converters is disclosed. The converter operates at a high input power factor with a regulated DC output voltage. It makes use of a novel control scheme utilizing duty cycle control at two discrete operating frequencies. Although the invention employs two frequencies, it does not use a continuous frequency variation. This configuration has the advantage of reduced peak current stresses on the components and is specifically suited for ‘buck’ applications where low DC output voltages (e.g. 24V, 48V) are needed. This configuration will be of specific interest to industries associated with battery charging and uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems. Apart from having several competitive features compared with prior art techniques, the dual frequency operation scheme reduces the amplitude of its noise spectrum by spreading it over a wider frequency range thus making it more electromagnetic compatible.

A night vision device provides both an amplified visible light image and an infrared image, overlayed upon each other so that they appear to be a single image. A user may select to utilize either an intensified visual image only, an infrared image only, or ratios of both images simultaneously. Dichroic surfaces within the night vision device are utilized first to separate light into visible and infrared portions, and then to recombine the visible and infrared images to a single image.

A patch antenna for achieving a vertically-polarized radiation pattern is described. The patch antenna includes a closed-curve slot within which a signal feed point is located. Parasitic slots are disposed outside or inside the closed-curve slot. In one embodiment, the closed-curve slot is a ring slot and the parasitic slots are arc slots having a common center point with the ring slot. The antenna may further include a lower patch capable of producing a different radiation pattern with different polarization and at a different frequency band, to result in a dual-band antenna. The dual-band antenna may operate in the 5.9 GHz DSRC and 1.575 GHz GPS bands.

The present invention comprises systems and methods for cellular, PCS, GPS and/or Bluetooth mobile communication (e.g., a mobile telephone). The systems and methods employ a fully integrated dual band IFA/loop CDMA antenna for cellular and PCS communication. Fully integrating the CDMA antenna within a PWB provides for mitigation of lumped elements to establish dual banding, and can provide for reduced antenna size, device size, cost and interference form a user's hand. The IFA antenna is configured to transmit and receive within the cellular frequency band via a capacitive tap, and the loop antenna is configured to transmit and receive within the PCS frequency band via an impedance matching stub and ground location. The system and methods further employ a firewall to mitigate antenna coupling, and a metal reflector to reduce the electromagnetic reflection, and improve antenna gain and efficiency.

A horizontal navigation system aided by a carrier phase differential Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver and a Laser-Scanner (LS) for an Autonomous Ground Vehicle (AGV). The high accuracy vehicle navigation system is highly demanded for advanced AGVs. Although high positioning accuracy is achievable by a high performance RTK-GPS receiver, the performance should be considerably degraded in a high-blockage environment due to tall buildings and other obstacles. The present navigation system is to provide decimetre-level positioning accuracy in such a severe environment for precise GPS positioning. The horizontal navigation system is composed of a low cost Fiber Optic Gyro (FOG) and a precise odometer. The navigation errors are estimated using a tightly coupled Extended Kalman Filter (EKF). The measurements of the EKF are double differenced code and carrier phase from a dual frequency GPS receiver and relative positions derived from laser scanner measurements.
