Secure user plane location (SUPL) roaming

A geographic cell identification (cell ID) database is updated on the fly as, for example, roaming user equipment (UE) reports its location during Assisted Global Positioning System (A-GPS) operations. The cell ID database relates network locations to corresponding geographic locations. The cell ID database is used to retrieve a corresponding geographic location in response to the network location at which the UE reports being located. If it is found that the cell ID database does not contain the network location reported by the UE, the geographic location of the UE can be estimated using information in the reported network location, such as Mobile Network Code, Mobile Country Code, Local Area Code and Cell ID. The geographic location can then be used to obtain A-GPS assistance data for the UE. Once assistance information has been provided to the UE and the UE has determined its geographic location, the cell ID database can be updated with the determined geographic location.

System, apparatus and method of determining associated data

In the field of monitoring communications systems, it is necessary for a monitoring system to be aware of an association of a Mobile Country Code (MCC), a Mobile Network Code (MNC) and an IP Address of a Gateway GPRS Support Node (GGSN) of a first network when a mobile terminal is roaming into a second network. Probes monitoring links with the second network generate transaction data. The transaction data is generated from messages communicated as part of a dialogue to establish a data “tunnel” between a Serving GPRS Support Node (SGSN) of the second network and the GGSN of the first network. The MCC, MNC and IP address data are extracted from the transaction data and used to update an address network name table.

Steering of roaming for 5G core roaming in an internet packet exchange network

A system and method for implementing Steering of Roaming for 5G core roaming in an Internet Packet Exchange (IPX) network. A Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) / 2 Proxy is deployed in an IPX network. The HTTP / 2 Proxy receives N32-f request message from a Visited Public Land Mobile Network (VPLMN). The N32-f request has an embedded N12 authorization request message or an embedded N8 registration request message. If VPLMN is a non-preferred roaming partner, the HTTP / 2 Proxy appends a patch-request to N32-f request message and routes it to the Home Public Land Mobile Network (HPLMN). The patch-request causes the home Security Edge Protection Proxy (hSEPP) to replace Mobile Country Code (MCC) or Mobile Network Code (MNC) value with a predefined value that will trigger a rejection from HPLMN. The mobile device will select another VPLMN. If the VPLMN is a preferred roaming partner, the HTTP / 2 Proxy routes the request without appending a patch-request.

Derivation of user equipment identifiers

Solutions are described that enable a user equipment (UE) for a communication system always to derive required identifiers using an international mobile subscriber identity (IMSI). The Mobile Network Code (MNC) may be two or three digits long. The SIM may not provide information regarding the MNC length. One solution is based on a table, or list, that is maintained in the UE and which is used to retrieve the MNC for a given Mobile Country Code (MCC). Another solution is based on always taking a predetermined number of digits of the IMSI and determining the MNC in a DNS server. Yet another solution is based on try-and-fail signaling with a DNS server. In consequence, the UE does not always need to know how many digits of the IMSI are used to indicate the mobile network code (MNC), which in some situations is impossible to know anyway.
