[0106] The following examples further describe and demonstrate embodiments within the scope of the present invention. The examples given are illustrative only and are not to be construed as limitations of the invention, since many changes can be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.
example I
[0107] Example 1 - Tooth Whitening Composition
[0108] The present compositions may advantageously be used in tooth bleaching or whitening applications. An example of a tooth whitening composition according to the invention is a fluid composition which can be applied to the teeth by brushing, by applying to the surface of tooth enamel or by adhering a strip coated with the composition to the teeth apply. The substantially anhydrous hydrophobic silicone pressure sensitive adhesives of the present invention provide a stable vehicle that prevents the decomposition of whitening agents such as peroxides during storage and prior to use. When applied to the teeth, the applied whitening composition forms an adherent layer of the whitening agent-containing product that releases the whitening agent over an extended period of time, such as from about 5 minutes to overnight The product. The applied layer adheres to the tooth surface whereby the whitening agent released then whitens ...

[0121] Example II. Bleaching Performance
[0122] The bleaching performance of the compositions on inherent tooth stains can be assessed using the following procedure. The extracted human molars are removed from any soft tissue and polished / cleaned to remove any calculus or foreign stain. The molar sample is mounted to a Lego Baselines and CIE L*a*b* values were measured using a Fuji HC1000 digital camera under controlled light conditions (D55 light) with polarizing filters. The molars were then rehydrated overnight in water or phosphate buffered saline. Thereafter, the molars were removed from the solution to be treated with the test composition. Separate each test strip from the release liner and wrap around each molar. A few drops of human saliva were added to each test molar. The molars were then placed in a 37°C incubator during processing. Each molar was treated with the composition for 30 minutes twice daily throughout the study period (4 or more days). Afte...
