Abstract

The invention describes techniques for managing resources at a wireless device. In one aspect, the wireless device controls applications based on resource demands and available resources. Processing demands by the applications may be monitored, and at least one of the applications may be controlled based on the processing demands and a maximum processing capacity of a processing unit executing the applications. A data application may be controlled by reducing the amount of data exchanged by the application when high processing demands are detected, and vice versa. In another aspect, the wireless device varies resource capacity to match resources demands. The processing capacity of the processing unit may be adjusted based on the processing demands. Higher clock frequency may be selected for the processing unit when the processing demands exceed a high threshold, and lower clock frequency may be selected when processing demands fall below a low threshold.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims priority to U.S. Provisional Application No. 60 / 827,678, filed September 29, 2006, entitled "GRACEFULLYREDUCE APPLICATION(S) PERFORMANCE WHEN MIPS DEMANDEXCEEDS ARCHITECTURAL CAPABILITY OF CHIPSET," which is assigned to this application assignee and is incorporated herein by reference. technical field [0003] The present disclosure relates generally to the field of electronics, and more particularly to techniques for managing resources at wireless devices. Background technique [0004] Wireless communication networks are widely used to provide various communication services such as voice, video, packet data, messaging, broadcasting, and so on. These wireless networks may be multiple-access networks capable of supporting multiple users by sharing available network resources. Examples of such multiple access networks include Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) networks, Time Division Multiple ...
