PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device having a small warpage of a liquid crystal panel and showing little display irregularity even after being left to stand in a humid and hot environment.SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device is manufactured by stacking a front polarizing plate 20 on a viewing side of a liquid crystal cell 10 with a first adhesive layer 41, stacking a back side polarizing plate 30 on the other side with a second adhesive layer 42, and disposing a backlight unit 60 outside the back side polarizing plate. The back side polarizing plate 30 has a layer structure of, from the backlight unit 60 side, a first transparent protective film 32 / polarizing film 31 / second transparent protective film 33 / third adhesive layer 43 / retardation film 35. The retardation film 35 has a three-layer structure comprising a core layer 36 made of a styrene resin and skin layers 37 made of an acrylic resin composition containing rubber particles, applied on both faces of the core layer 36.
