Abstract

The invention provides an electrochemical capacitor which comprises an anode, a cathode, electrolyte and a diaphragm arranged between the anode and the cathode, wherein a molybdenum disulfide or molybdenum disulfide compound material is taken as a cathode material of the electrochemical capacitor. The cathode material is wide in source and low in cost, so that the cost of the electrochemical capacitor is reduced. The cathode material adopted by the electrochemical capacitor has a layer structure and a bigger interlayer space; during a charging process, ions in the electrolyte are embedded into the cathode material with the layer structure, so that a large quantity of charges are stored in the electrode; and during a discharging process, the ions entering the lattices of the cathode material return to the electrolyte again, and meanwhile, the stored charges are released through an external circuit. The cathode material adopted by the electrochemical capacitor has the layer structure, a large number of ions in the electrolyte are conveniently stored in the cathode material and the embedding and releasing of particles are also boosted, so that the energy density and power density of the electrochemical capacitor are increased.
