Abstract

The invention provides a eucalyptus PGEF17 gene. The complementary deoxyribonucleic acid (cDNA) sequence of the gene is characterized by having an DNA sequence which is shown as SEQIDNO:1 or encoding polypeptide which has the amino acid sequence shown as SEQIDNO:2. The invention also provides a host cell which comprises the eucalyptus PGEF17 gene, fragments of the gene or a plant expression vector. The invention also provides application of the gene, the plant expression vector or the host cell to promotion of vegetative growth of plant and improvement on biomass of the plant; and according to the application, the gene, or the fragments of the gene and / or the plant expression vector are transformed into the plant, or the plant is infected by using the host cell. By improving the expression of PGEF17 in the plant, the leaf number and the diameter of the plant are increased, the growth of the root is promoted, and the biomass is improved. The eucalyptus PGEF17 gene can be widely applied to improvement on the yield of forest, vegetables and industrial crop.
