Abstract

#CMT# #/CMT# Use of solid sodium aluminate with sodium oxide/alumina ratio of 1-1.5, alumina content of 53-55% and a particle size distribution of 0.1-1 mm, where the amount of solid sodium aluminate is 1-35, preferably 2-10 wt.% with respect to starch portion, or an aqueous sodium aluminate solution with a solid content of 10-45 wt.% based on starch portion, sodium oxide/alumina ratio of 1.5-1.5 and alumina content of 5-25 wt.%, as component in borax-free starch glue for paper and corrugated cardboard production, is claimed. #CMT#USE : #/CMT# The solid sodium aluminate or aqueous sodium aluminate solution is useful as component in borax-free starch glue for paper and corrugated cardboard production (claimed). #CMT#ADVANTAGE : #/CMT# Sodium aluminate exhibits good solubility in water. #CMT#EXAMPLE : #/CMT# No suitable example given.

Description

Background technique [0001] Adhesives containing starch and dextrins play an important role in a wide range of industries, especially in the packaging industry. Starches and dextrins are used to glue packaging paper and corrugated board when they are manufactured. In addition, other porous substrates are glued with these adhesives. [0002] Starches and dextrins are also very inexpensive raw materials, readily available and often used as aqueous dispersions, since they are available both cold and hot in special formulations. Apart from this, starch and dextrin are used in the form of powder dissolved in water to form a relatively viscous paste. Eventually, they harden as moisture is lost. [0003] Although starch and dextrin have been used as adhesives for a very long time, these natural adhesives cannot be 100% replaced by synthetic products for several reasons: [0004] √ They are easy to source [0005] √ They are cheap [0006] √ They are stable in quality [0007] ...
