Problems solved by technology

[0029] ·The delivery of fluid from the wound site to the dressing is very critical, if this step is not performed, the fluid can accumulate in the wound, which increases the risk of infection caused by the increase of colony forming units (CFU's), and may Causes maceration of the periwound area

Embodiment Construction

[0115] The present invention will now be described in further detail with reference to the accompanying drawings and examples, which should not be construed as limiting the present invention.

[0116] Figure 1a and Figure 1b The system of the invention is shown wherein the wound dressing is connected to the fluid container (11) via a tube (5) adapted for use with a peristaltic pump. A pressure control valve (13) is connected close to the wound dressing, which limits the negative pressure generated at the wound site to a predetermined value. Fluid container (11) can be rigid or flexible container, so that accord with patient condition (below image 3 This will be described in further detail). The container has an inlet (2) and an outlet (4). A peristaltic pump (3) is used between the container (11) and the wound dressing (15). Tube (5) is connected by a peristaltic pump. The container has means to allow the gas to escape, such as a vent or valve (1) at the outlet (i.e., ...

Abstract

The present invention provides an apparatus comprising a wound dressing 15 connected to a pump 3 and a fluid container 11, which has an inlet 2 and an outlet 4, and wherein the wound dressing is in communication with a mechanical pressure control valve 13. Also provided is a flexible fluid container comprising at least two layers of film (21, 23, see figure 3) with an integrated vent, which may be a microporous, hydrophobic membrane 29; a wound dressing comprising a porous pad, a flexible covering and a connection to a control valve; a multi-compartment wound fluid container (35, 63, see figures 6 or 7) comprising at least two internal compartments divided by a microporous fluid separator 41, 55 and provided with an inlet 49, 59 and an outlet 37, 51, wherein the microporous fluid separator permits gas flow between the compartments and prevents fluid flow to the outlet of the container; and a means for detecting the level of fluid in a multi-compartment container comprising a strap with limited extensibility.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a device for negative pressure wound therapy (Negative Pressure Wound Therapy, NPWT) of a patient's exposed wound. Background technique [0002] Negative pressure wound therapy, reduced pressure therapy, or subatmospheric pressure therapy is used to treat difficult-to-heal wounds and works by applying subatmospheric pressure (typically between 50 mmHg and 200 mmHg gauge) to a porous dressing that sits on the wound. The porous dressing is usually held in place with a partially enclosed adhesive film, with tubing connecting the dressing assembly to a rigid fluid container fitted with a pressure generating device consisting of a low flow vacuum pump, a reservoir for the fluid container, Control system and moldings to house the components. In a typical setup for clinical use, a control system activates a pump which in turn evacuates the dressing and draws air and fluid from the wound dressing site, which is drawn into a rigid cont...
