Vacuum assisted closure pad with adaptation for phototherapy

A modified vacuum assisted wound closure system adapted for concurrent applications of phototherapy having a foam pad for insertion substantially into the wound site and a wound drape for sealing enclosure of the foam pad at the wound site. The foam pad includes an optical pigtail, whereby desired wavelength of light may be directed into and about the wound site. The foam pad is placed in fluid communication with a vacuum source for promotion of fluid drainage. The foam pad is made of a highly reticulated, open-cell polyurethane or polyether foam for good permeability of wound fluids while under suction and is also embedded with an optical pigtail. The optical pigtail comprises an optical fiber that has been formed to fan into a plurality of sections. The fibers of the most distal fanned sections, which are implanted in the foam pad at its base, are provided with tiny optical slots, oriented away from the foam pad and toward the wound site. Each optical slot is made by stripping the cladding from the optical fiber in the desired areas of the fanned sections to form slot radiators. Because it is necessary to trim the foam pad in preparation for therapy, the optical fibers comprise plastics, such as acrylic or styrene. Upon placement of the pad, having the optical pigtail embedded therein, the wound drape is firmly adhered about the VAC therapy suction hose as well as the extending optical fiber to prevent vacuum leakage.

Medical dressing with cooling function and wound healing prompting function and preparation method of medical dressing

The invention discloses a medical dressing with a cooling function and a wound healing promoting function, which at least comprises a perforated non-woven fabric layer, a nanometer fiber layer with a gradient structure, a hydrogel layer and a supporting layer. The preparation method of the medical dressing includes steps of covering hydrogel onto the supporting layer; covering the nanometer fiberlayer with the gradient structure on the hydrogel; and finally reinforcing the perforated non-woven fabric layer on the surface of the nanometer fiber layer so as to obtain the medical dressing. The nanometer fiber layer has the gradient structure, and facilitates absorption and retention of liquid of wound, and medicine can reach the surface of the wound after being released, so that wound healing is promoted; the perforated non-woven fabric layer has a physical isolating effect, avoids outside bacteria, can absorb effusion of the wound, can be easily removed from the surface of the wound and is not adhered with the wound; and the hydrogel layer can realize temperature regulation and reduces the temperature of the wound. The medical dressing comprehensively utilizes a medicine loading performance of nanometer fibers and capillary mobility of liquid, and promotes wound healing while cooling.

Systems and methods for detection of wound fluid blood and application of phototherapy in conjunction with reduced pressure wound treatment system

Wound fluid blood detection systems and methods are described that are operable in conjunction with reduced pressure wound treatment (RPWT) systems, as well as ancillary therapy and monitoring systems applied concurrently with RPWT systems. The blood detection monitor operates by optically characterizing the content of wound fluids to the extent of identifying percentage blood content. This identification relies upon the transmission of select wavelengths of light across a volume of wound fluid to a photo detector (connected to signal processing instrumentation) capable of quantifying the absorption characteristics of the fluid. The detection components may be implemented in conjunction with either a fluid flow conduit (i.e. the reduced pressure tubing directing fluid away from the wound dressing) or more directly in association with the materials that comprise the wound dressing positioned within the wound bed itself. In addition, the present invention is configured to operate in conjunction with blood gas monitoring systems operating with the RPWT. Finally, the components of the systems that serve to illuminate the wound bed, lend themselves to use in conjunction with illumination in discreet electromagnetic wave wavelengths suitable for the application of phototherapy.
