461 results about "Chronic wound" patented technology

A chronic wound is a wound that does not heal in an orderly set of stages and in a predictable amount of time the way most wounds do; wounds that do not heal within three months are often considered chronic. Chronic wounds seem to be detained in one or more of the phases of wound healing. For example, chronic wounds often remain in the inflammatory stage for too long. To overcome that stage and jump-start the healing process a number of factors need to be addressed such as bacterial burden, necrotic tissue, and moisture balance of the whole wound. In acute wounds, there is a precise balance between production and degradation of molecules such as collagen; in chronic wounds this balance is lost and degradation plays too large a role.

Wound healing polymer compositions and methods for use thereof

The present invention provides bioactive polymer compositions that can be formulated to release a wound healing agent at a controlled rate by adjusting the various components of the composition. The composition can be used in an external wound dressing, as a polymer implant for delivery of the wound healing agent to an internal body site, or as a coating on the surface of an implantable surgical device to deliver wound healing agents that are covalently attached to a biocompatible, biodegradable polymer and/or embedded within a hydrogel. Methods of using the invention bioactive polymer compositions to promote natural healing of wounds, especially chronic wounds, are also provided. Examples of biodegradable copolymer polyesters useful in forming the blood-compatible, hydrophilic layer or coating include copolyester amides, copolyester urethanes, glycolide-lactide copolymers, glycolide-caprolactone copolymers, poly-3-hydroxy butyrate-valerate copolymers, and copolymers of the cyclic diester monomer, 3-(S)[(alkyloxycarbonyl)methyl]-1,4-dioxane-2,5-dione, with L-lactide. The glycolide-lactide copolymers include poly(glycolide-L-lactide) copolymers formed utilizing a monomer mole ratio of glycolic acid to L-lactic acid ranging from 5:95 to 95:5 and preferably a monomer mole ratio of glycolic acid to L-lactic acid ranging from 45:65 to 95:5. The glycolide-caprolactone copolymers include glycolide and ε-caprolactone block copolymer, e.g., Monocryl or Poliglecaprone.

Method and apparatus for treating wound using negative pressure therapy

Devices that employ external compression stocking-type garments in the treatment of edema, chronic wounds, deep venous thrombosis prevention or claudication all share a number of significant limitations. These include the frequent need for custom fitting to assure an appropriate fit, vigilant maintenance to assure a continued “good fit,” limited compliance with proper use by patients and difficulty of application. There is a large body of evidence demonstrating that patients often decline to wear the compressive stockings as prescribed or in the form that would be most beneficial because they find these devices to be difficult to put on and take off.Building on the limitations of existing therapies, and distilled lessons learned from the field of prosthetics and wound healing, the present invention employs vacuum-assisted negative pressure to provide compression and help pump fluid from the tissues of affected limbs. The device is embodied in the form of a flexible stocking-like garment that will utilize a pumping mechanism to generate negative pressure around the limb and thus create vacuum compression that will mobilize fluid in a limb and increase venous return to the heart. Through the use of a circumferential wrap, the present invention provides a major advance in both the distribution of vacuum and the securing of the device over the limb.

Medical hydrogel dressing and preparation method thereof

The invention relates to a wound healing hydrogel dressing applicable to nursing various acute and chronic wounds and a preparation method. The hydrogel dressing comprises a hydrogel layer, a fixing non-woven fabric and a medical adhesive tape, the hydrogel layer is fixed on a surface of the non-woven fabric, and the other surface of the non-woven fabric is adhered on the medical adhesive tape. The preparation method includes fixing cross-linking agent on the non-woven fabric; coating solution of a raw material of hydrogel onto one surface of the non-woven fabric, adhering the other surface of the non-woven fabric onto the medial adhesive tape with pressure-sensitive adhesive after crosslinking is finished, arranging the pressure-sensitive adhesive onto one surface of the medical adhesive tape while arranging a separate film backing on the other surface of the medical adhesive tape, and attaching an isolating film on one surface of the hydrogel; and sterilizing after the medical hydrogel dressing is packaged. The medical hydrogel dressing is convenient in use, can rapidly absorb exudation of the wound, prevents the exudation of the wound from excessively steeping the wound, creates a moist wound healing condition, and promotes wound healing. A self-adhesion function of the wound healing hydrogel dressing is greatly convenient for clinic service.

Medical dressing loaded with nano silver and bioactive factors and preparation method thereof

The invention relates to a preparation method of chronic wound dressing, and in particular, relates to a medical dressing loaded with nano silver and bioactive factors and a preparation method thereof. The dressing includes calcium alginate, chitosan or a chitosan derivative as a matrix and is loaded with nano silver antibacterial composition particles and a growth factor EGF. During preparation, calcium alginate core microspheres wrapped with the growth factor are obtained by dropwise adding a sodium alginate solution mixed with the growth factor into a calcium chloride solution. The microspheres are added to a chitosan acetic acid solution to form a polyelectrolyte complex. Then the polyelectrolyte complex is mixed and stirred with nano silver and chitosan, the mixture is added to sodiumalginate, crosslinking and freeze-drying are performed, and finally, the chronic wound dressing loaded with nano silver and the growth factor is formed. The raw materials of the method are cheap andeasy to obtain, the preparation process is stable, the bacteriostatic performance of the chronic wound dressing is good, and the wound repair ability is excellent. The dressing is used for treating various chronic wounds caused by cancer radiotherapy, diabetes, ischemia and the like, and induces cleaning and repairing of the wounds.
