The invention discloses an application of spirulina (SP) in preparation of a product for treating diabetes-related diseases. According to the application disclosed by the invention, spirulina is found to be capable of alleviating oxidative stress in cells, promoting macrophages to be converted from a proinflammatory M1 type to an anti-inflammatory M2 type, remodeling redox balance and inhibiting an inflammatory microenvironment. More importantly, it is found that spirulina can lower the level of advanced glycation end products (AGEs) to inhibit the glycosylation process, and healing of diabetic wounds and bone defects is accelerated. In addition, the invention also finds that the spirulina can promote proliferation, migration and vascularization of vascular endothelial cells in a high-glucose and high-fat microenvironment, and further accelerate healing of bone defects.
