Abstract

The invention discloses a rice mesocotyl elongation gene OsMsc8 and application thereof. The cDNA sequence of the mesocotyl elongation gene OsMsc8 is as shown in SEQ ID NO. 1 and an amino acid sequence coded by the gene is as shown in SEQ ID NO. 2. The gene function of the invention is reported in rice for the first time; and analysis on mRNA expression shows that the expression of the gene is inhibited by illumination, and the gene expression amount of a rice variety with long mesocotyl is significantly higher than that of a short mesocotyl variety. The mesocotyl elongation length of the gene which is over-expressed in a short mesocotyl rice variety (Oryza sativa L. japonica. cv. Nipponbare) is significantly increased. Therefore, through the over-expression of the OsMsc8 gene, the mesocotyl elongation length of the rice variety can be significantly increased, so that the emergency rate and the regularity of rice directly seeded on dry land can be improved.
