Filter element 10 includes a cylindrical filter housing 12 to which a top plate 14 and a bottom plate 16 are secured. A non-ferrous bushing 18 is received within housing 12 with a tight fit. Insert 20 extends axially down housing 12 from top plate 14 , terminating above bottom plate 16 . Insert 20 includes a central return conduit 22 . Fluid is directed into the filter element 10 through ports 24 in the top plate 14 and returned to the exterior of the filter element 10 via the return conduit 22 . The insert 20 preferably has a plurality of radially extending plates 26 for introducing a flow pattern to the fluid inside the filter element 10 .
