Abstract

A method for inactivating microorganisms in the air comprises feeding the air through a system of corona electrodes (7, 9) and ionizer electrodes (10) arranged in a sterilizing chamber (2) in a magnetic field; applying high-voltage impulses of positive and negative polarity with an amplitude of 14-100 kV for the duration of 2-200 msec and a density of 1-100, with the possibility of independently setting the voltage value. The electrical sterilizer comprises a housing (1) and the sterilizing chamber (2) where the positive (9) and negative (7) corona electrodes are arranged, which are connectedto high-voltage pulsed power supplies. Isolated electrodes (8) are positioned between the positive (9) and negative (7) corona electrodes, the former being configured in the form of a dielectric bodywith metal meshes imbedded therein. The ionizer electrodes (10) are mounted on the last negative electrode in the direction of the airflow. At least four electromagnets (11) are installed on the sterilizing chamber (2) with the power supplies thereof being positioned outside the housing (3) of the sterilizing chamber and synchronized with the power supplies of the electrodes. A turbine (4) and aninjector (5) for an additional gas supply are installed before the sterilizer inlet.
