According to a system switch control signal and alternating-current sidecurrent polarity, switch functions under normal operation and different switch tube faults are calculated; and an output current calculation model and a state estimation model of a single-phase cascaded H-bridge rectifier module are obtained according to circuit topology of the cascaded H-bridge rectifier, and a calculated value and an estimated value of an output current are obtained. Based on characteristics that fault features of current residuals of different modules are separated and different fault diagnosis variables are mutually independent, any faulted switch tube can be positioned bycomparing the diagnosis variables with a self-adaptive detection threshold value. According to the method, the real-time diagnosis of the single-phase cascaded H-bridge rectifier in one or more switch tube fault states in an on-line real-time system can be realized, and the influence of network voltage fluctuation, load variation and operation condition change of the single-phase cascaded H-bridge rectifier is avoided; and moreover, the diagnosis time is short, the faults can be isolated in time, and the occurrence of secondary faults of the system is avoided.
