Problems solved by technology

For example, combining materials such as oxide-rich CdS (CdS:O) [J. M. Kephart et al., Sputtered, Oxygenated CdS WindowLayers for Higher Current in CdS / CdTe Thin Film Solar Cells, Proc. 38 th IEEE Photovoltaic Spec. Conf., (2012), pp. 854–858] and cadmium zinc sulfide (CdZnS) are used for the window layer, however these materials are unstable and usually already phase separated during chlorine activation

Embodiment Construction

[0015] Inside the vacuum chamber 1 a plurality of glass substrates 2 should be equipped with some layers of the CdTe solar cell layer system. Horizontal arrows above the glass substrates 2 indicate their moving directions. With the aid of the coating device 3 , first a layer of transparent conductive material (TCO layer) serving as a front contact is deposited on the glass substrate 2 . For this purpose, all deposition methods and materials known in the prior art for depositing the front contact layer are suitable. The TCO layer and the glass substrate 2 are subsequently heated to approximately 500° C. by means of the heating device 4 , which can be designed, for example, as a radiation heater, as is likewise known from the prior art.

[0016] According to the invention, the CdS is then heated thermally by means of the coating device 5, whereby the CdS material is sublimated and at the same time oxygen is introduced into the vacuum chamber 1 by means of the inlet 6 and a plas...

Abstract

The invention relates to a method for producing a CdTe solar cell, wherein at least the following layers are deposited on a glass substrate within a vacuum chamber (1): a TCO layer acting as a frontalcontact; at least one CdTe layer; a thin layer of a chlorine-containing compound, and an electrically conductive layer acting as a return contact. Here, a maximally 20 nm thick passivation layer madefrom CdS, in which chemically non-bound oxygen is embedded, is deposited on the TCO layer prior to deposition of at least one CdTe-layer.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a method of manufacturing CdTe solar cells in which a glass substrate is used as front side carrier material. Background technique [0002] CdTe thin-film solar cells are preferably produced in a so-called superstrat configuration, in which a glass plate is used as the front-side substrate through which the light first passes before entering the solar cell's deposition on the backside of the glass substrate layer. [0003] Such a solar cell comprises, in its simplest structure, a transparent conductive oxide layer (according to the English term "transparent conductive oxide", also called a TCO layer) serving as a front contact, which is first deposited on a glass substrate. Subsequently, at least one CdTe absorber layer and a conductive layer serving as back contact are also deposited [B. Siepchen et al., Thinfilm CdTe solar cells by close spaced sublimation: Recent results from pilotline, Thin Solid Films 535 (2013) 2...
