Abstract

The present invention addresses the problem of providing a binder composition from which a binder layer having excellent upper layer coatability and good liquid crystal alignment properties can be formed, a binder layer, an optical laminate and an image display device. The binder composition according to the present invention comprises a binder, a polymerization initiator, a surfactant and a photo-alignment agent, wherein the surfactant and the photo-alignment agent respectively have functional groups capable of forming a hydrogen bond together, and one of the functional groups capable of forming a hydrogen bond of the surfactant and the photo-alignment agent is a proton donor functional group while the other is a proton acceptor functional group.
