The present invention addresses the problem of providing a horizontal electric field drive-mode liquid crystal display element to which an alignment control function is imparted with a high efficiency and which has excellent reliability including seizing properties and a voltage retention rate. According to the liquid crystal display element, the problem can be solved by a polymer composition comprising (A) a photosensitive side chain polymer and (B) an organic solvent, wherein the (A) photosensitive side chain polymer can exhibit liquid crystallinity in a predetermined temperature range, and the lower limit and the upper limit of the temperature range in which the liquid crystallinity is exhibited are 150 DEG C or higher and 200 DEG C or higher, respectively.
