liquid crystal alignment film that exhibits good resistance to AC 
image persistence or residual DC-derived 
image persistence, and has good adhesion to a sealing agent; and a 
liquid crystal alignment agent that can be used to obtain a 
liquid crystal display element which inhibits in-plane variations in brightness during black displaying, and has excellent contrast characteristics. This liquid 
crystal alignment agent is characterized by containing component (A) and component (B). Component (A): a 
polymer (A) having a repeating unit represented by formula (1). Component (B): a 
polymer (B) having a repeating unit represented by formula (3). (In formula (1), R1-R4 each represent a 
hydrogen atom, a 
halogen atom, an 
alkyl group having 1-6 carbon atoms, or the like, at least one of R1-R4 is a group as defined above but, excluding a 
hydrogen atom. Y1 represents a 
divalent organic group having a 
moiety structure represented by formula (H). In formula (3), X3 represents a tetravalent 
organic group derived from an 
aromatic acid dianhydride, Y3 represents a 
divalent organic group having a 
moiety structure represented by formula (m). R30 represents a
