Embodiment 1
[0095] Glass vials (compositionally ion-exchanged alkali metal aluminosilicates) were coated with a mixed polysilazane coating comprising silazane, siloxane, and silane. Specifically, vials were coated and tested using three commercially available polysilazane solutions: HS-900, HS-907, and HS-908 (each from Huntington Specialty Materials). To coat the vials, heat uncoated vials at 320°C for 20 minutes and then return to room temperature. HS-900, HS-907 and HS-908 solutions can be used in the form provided commercially without the addition of additional solvents. The paint was applied to the outside of the vial by dip coating with a dipping speed of 10 mm / s, a hold time of 5 s, and a return speed of 2 mm / s. After impregnation, the vials were kept at room temperature for 1 hour and then cured in an oven at 250° C. (without added moisture) for 30 minutes.
[0096] It should be noted that many conventional polysilazane curing processes use steam curing, but in this example a dr...
