Abstract
The present invention relates to a method for producing glass by removing colouring ions via reduction and the products obtained by the method.
Description
[0001] The invention relates to a method for producing glass by removing coloring ions by reduction, and to the products obtained by this method. [0002] Background of the invention [0003] Glass is made of sandstone (mainly SiO 2 ) and other additives such as soda (Na 2 CO 3 ), lime (CaO / CaCO 3 ), magnesium oxide, magnesium carbonate, aluminum oxide, boron trioxide (B 2 o 3 ), potassium carbonate, potassium oxide, lead oxide, germanium oxide (GeO 2 ), phosphate, sodium oxide (Na 2 O), sodium hydroxide (NaOH), titanium dioxide (TiO 2 ) and so on. Metals such as iron, chromium, manganese, etc. tend to cause glass to stain. Iron oxides and chromium(II) oxides usually produce green glass, while sulfur and iron together may produce yellow to almost black glasses. For some applications such as bottles, tinting is desired, while in other cases clear glass is desired, e.g. for flat glass (windows, windshields, fire rated glass, gorilla glass), low iron glass ( For e.g. aqu...
