Abstract

Disclosed is a method of mass spectrometry comprising: a step (10) of analyzing a reference compound in a first mass spectrometer and outputting mass spectrometric data in response thereto; a step (20) of analyzing the reference compound in a second, different mass spectrometer and outputting mass spectrometric data in response thereto; and a step (30) of automatically adjusting the operating parameters of the at least one mass spectrometer, the duty cycle (e.g., the duty cycle of the data acquisition) or the acquired spectral data such that for the same (given) consumption of the reference compound by the spectrometer, the duty cycle of the data acquisition is automatically adjusted. The statistical accuracy of quantification (number of detected ions) and / or mass measurement (mass resolution) by the mass spectrometer is substantially the same as another mass spectrometer. Similar methods of ion mobility spectrometry are disclosed.
