Problems solved by technology

[0006] Thus, problems arising from the development of air conditioning fans, especially those used in HVAC systems, include the need to be corrosion resistant, have negligible material creep, not be brittle when cold or soft when hot, have the same Steel or similar metals have similar coefficients of thermal expansion, chemical resistance, low acoustic conductivity and ease of fabrication of complex housing shapes

Embodiment Construction

[0030] In the following description, the same components in the specification and drawings are denoted by the same reference numerals, respectively. The drawings are not necessarily to scale and for clarity and conciseness the proportions of certain features may have been exaggerated or unclear or merely schematic.

[0031] See Figure 1, which shows a portion of an HVAC system, generally indicated by the numeral 24. The HVAC system 24 includes a generally rectangular cabinet 26 containing heat exchange coils 28 of so-called A-frame configuration for cooling and heating the air passing through the cabinet. Typically, the air flow enters the cabinet 26 (not shown) from a bottom wall opening, guided by the air-conditioning centrifugal fan (generally indicated by reference numeral 30) in the present invention, and the upward air flow passes through the A-type structure heat exchange coil 28. A fan 30 is arranged in the cabinet 26 and air is exhausted through the fan outlet or th...

Abstract

An air handling blower housing for an HVAC system is formed by two opposed housing parts which are each fabricated of a compression molded reinforced thermoset polymer composition. The housing parts are joined along a parting line, preferably perpendicular to the axis of a motor driven impeller mounted within the housing by wedge shaped clips which engage cooperating bosses aligned with each other when the housing parts are joined. The construction of the housing parts provides for an improved method of assembly of an air handling blower of a type particularly adapted for HVAC systems.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application is a continuation-in-part of co-pending US Application No. 10 / 461042, filed June 13, 2003. Background of the invention [0003] Centrifugal and axial flow air conditioning fans are widely used in domestic or commercial heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems to circulate air. Electric centrifugal fans or fans housed in helical fan housings are especially popular in domestic HVAC systems. Essentially all HVAC fan housings are manufactured by fastening or welding sheets of metal together to form a fan housing with some complex geometry. [0004] Disadvantages of sheet metal housings have been recognized, including susceptibility to corrosion, manufacturing cost issues, and the risk of injury to workers who process the fan housing and ultimately assemble the fan due to the sharp edges of the sheet metal components. In addition, sheet m...
