An adjustable occlusion device and methods of deploying the device, comprising an actively expandable anchor for use in customizing the fit in a body lumen such as the left atrial appendage. Some embodiments of the actively expandable anchor include a positive force expander as an adjustable occlusion device using intertwining adjustable coils, engageable helical ribbons, or threaded tubes.

The present invention provides devices and methods for occluding the left atrial appendage. The device includes an easily deployed wire structure of shape memory material sized to be appropriate for use in a patient. The device may be manufactured in various sizes for use in various patients. The device has a sheet of material attached for eclipsing the opening of the left atrial appendage and means for secured attachment substantially within the left atrial appendage. A left atrial appendage occlusion device including an occluder disk configured to substantially prevent blood from at least one of entering and exiting the left atrial appendage, a middle portion including a coiled element and a first anchoring element. The coiled element connects to the occluder disk, has a substantially constant cross section and allows for variable length, variable orientation, and/or varied angles. The first anchoring element connects to the coiled element and includes scalloped edges that are configured to anchor the occlusion device to inner walls of the left atrial appendage and reduce the risk of one of penetration and perforation of walls of the left atrial appendage. A medical device implant for the left atrial appendage of a patient's heart to prevent strokes. The device includes a cap that overlies the opening of the LAA connected to a bulb in the LAA. An assembly and method for performing the occlusion of the left atrial appendage including a delivery instrument being positioned in communicating relation with the interior of the left atrial appendage and disposing a distal end portion of the delivery instrument in covering relation to the entrance thereof. Occlusion material is movably connected to the delivery instrument and includes at least one elongated single strand of flexible material. A length of the single strand is progressively fed through the delivery instrument into the interior of the left atrial appendage and the flexibility thereof is sufficient to progressively form an arbitrarily intermingled array of occlusion material therein. An epicardial device, system, and method for stabilizing the left atrial appendage during a left atrial appendage ligation/occlusion procedure. A cryoadhesion device including a stabilization element is positioned within the pericardial space proximate the left atrial appendage through subxiphoid access. Once the stabilization element is in contact with the left atrial appendage, the stabilization element is cooled to a temperature that is sufficient to cryoadhere the stabilization element to the left atrial appendage. A device and method for obliterating or occluding a body cavity or passageway, in particular, the left atrial appendage of a patient's heart. The procedure can be carried out intraoperatively, but is preferably carried out percutaneously by use of a delivery catheter to position an occluding device adjacent a patient's left atrial appendage. The occluding device may prevent the passage of embolic or other material to or from the left atrial appendage by volumetrically filling the appendage, closing the opening of the appendage with an occluding member, or pulling the tissue around the opening of the appendage together and fixing it in a closed state.
