Problems solved by technology

This increases lead times and results in lower utilization of weaving equipment
[0015] Second, when using a loom to form a longer base fabric, new warp threads must be inserted into the reed, which takes not only preparation time, but also time to adjust the loom to obtain an even and consistent yarn tension in the warp
So, looms are huge and expensive
[0017] Fourth, weaving a shorter length of base support structure in a wide loom leads to wastage of warp yarns as not all warp yarns are used, but warp yarns must also be fed through the loom during the weaving process

Abstract

The invention is directed to a method and machine for manufacturing an industrial fabric using a ''folding'' technique. The invention relates to a laminated fabric that is produced using this technique. The method comprises the steps of forming a base support structure having a width which is larger than a width of the final fabric, attaching at least one layer of staple fiber batt material to one or both sides of the base support structure, folding the base support structure onto itself in a widthwise manner one or more times to form a multi-layered structure, and bonding the layers of the multilayered structure together to form a laminated fabric structure.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to industrial fabrics, such as paper machine clothing ("PMC") used in the paper industry, which are made using "folding" techniques. Background technique [0002] The present invention relates broadly to paper machine backings, backings for process belts such as shoe press belts, calender belts, conveyor belts, and other industrial textile process finishing fabrics / belts such as tannery linings. The invention relates in particular to press fabrics or press belts used in the press section of a paper machine, but does not apply only thereto, but can also be applied to the forming and dryer sections of a paper machine. Although many applications are anticipated for such industrial fabrics, for purposes of illustration, the invention described below relates only to papermaker's fabrics. [0003] In the papermaking process, a web of cellulosic fibers is formed by depositing a fibrous slurry, ie, an aqueous dispersion of cellul...
