Abstract

Provided is a membrane electrode assembly and a fuel cell. The membrane electrode assembly comprises a polymer electrolyte membrane, a pair of catalyst layers facing each other with the polymer electrolyte membrane therebetween, and an anode gas diffusion layer and a cathode gas diffusion layer that face each other with the polymer electrolyte membrane and the pair of catalyst layers therebetween. The anode gas diffusion layer has a porosity of 60% or greater. The cathode gas diffusion layer has a greater porosity than that of the anode gas diffusion layer. The anode gas diffusion layer is comprised of a porous member that includes conductive particles and a polymer resin as main components. Accordingly, the electricity generating performance of a fuel cell can be further improved.
