A preparation method of the dust suppressant comprises the following steps of: putting normal-temperature water into a container; adding the obtained high molecular synthesis water-soluble polymer into water; stirring for 2 minutes; adding the polyvinyl alcohol redispersion rubber powder; stirring for 5 minutes; and slowly adding the film forming aid and the dispersant while stirring. The dust suppressant is nontoxic, harmless and noncorrosive, has a reasonable formula and a simple preparation process, and is easy and convenient to spray. When the dust suppressant is sprayed onto thesurface of a material, a solidified layer with a certain intensity can be formed on the surface of the material; and the dispersed material is enclosed below the solidified layer, so that the aim of preventing dust on the surface of the material is fulfilled.
