The invention discloses a method for preparing a thio-modified sepiolite heavy metal absorbent, which prepares thio-modified sepiolite adopting a gel process, stirring nature clay sepiolite serving as a substrate at a high speed to form gel, and adding mercaptopropyl silane, and comprises the following steps: 1) dispersing natural clay sepiolite in deionized water to form suspension of sepiolite;2) stirring the suspension of sepiolite in a dispersing machine at a high speed to obtain sepiolite gel; 3) adding mercaptopropyl trimethoxysilane under a high-speed stirring condition, and continuing high-speed stirring to form gel system of thio-modified sepiolite; 4) keeping the gel system at a constant temperature of 80 DEG C for 24 hours; and 5) taking the gel out of the gel system, drying at 65 DEG C, and grinding to obtaining the thio-modified sepiolite. The thio-modified sepiolite prepared by the method has high absorbability, high absorption speed, no secondary pollution, and wide application range; and the preparation method is simple, low in cost and suitable for large-scale promotion and use.
