The bidirectional impeller comprises a rotary shaft and a wheel hub which are mounted in an impeller chamber, and 5-7 S-shaped blades mounted and fixed on the wheel hub, wherein the two sides of the impeller chamber are a water inlet side and a water outlet side respectively. During forward power generation, water stream axially flows to the water outlet side from the water inlet side through the flow guide cover, and during reverse power generation, the water stream axially flows to the water inlet side from the water outlet side; the wheel hub is spherical; the S-shaped blades are S wing sections with unequal thicknesses and unequal chord lengths from the root parts of the blades to the outer edge of the impeller; the S wing sections are arranged in a bilateral symmetric manner; the wing chords of the left wing sections and the right wing sections are collinear.
