Embodiment

[0070] In order to evaluate the high quality paperboard of the present invention, a test series was carried out in which a paperboard with a back ply comprising 100% unbleached hardwood pulp was compared to a conventional paperboard comprising softwood pulp. In the tests, both paperboards were of three-ply construction, with a face and a back and middle ply.

[0071] The strength properties, surface properties and optical properties of each paperboard were studied. All tests were performed according to the methods and standards indicated above, all analyzes were performed after conditioning at 23°C, 50% RH according to available standards.

[0072] cardboard sample

[0073] An Automatic Dymanic Sheet Former (Formette Dynamique) was used to make 2 three-ply paperboards, each with a top and back ply and a middle ply. The basis weight of the paperboard was about 185 gsm with a weight distribution of: top ply-middle ply-back ply = 40-110-35 gsm.

[0074] The properties of the p...

Abstract

The present invention discloses a multi-ply paperboard for packaging of liquid and/or food products, which paperboard comprises a top ply, a back ply and at least one middle ply arranged between said top and back ply. The invention is characterized in that the back ply is made of unbleached hardwood pulp to 100% by weight, calculated on the total fiber weight of said back ply. It has surprisingly been found that the use of unbleached pulp in the back ply makes it possible to use 100% hardwood fibers in the back ply, calculated on the total fiber weight of the back ply, and still achieve a high quality board with an acceptable strength and bending resistance.

Description

technical field [0001] A multilayer paperboard comprising chemical pulp and mechanical pulp of cellulose fibers. Background technique [0002] There are numerous applications in which paperboard is used. All of these applications place their own specific requirements on the paperboard and therefore the properties of the paperboard necessarily differ depending on the intended end use. [0003] Paperboard to be converted (eg, coated, printed, cut, folded and folded) on fast-moving robotic machinery must have the required strength to withstand the strains and stresses incurred during the conversion. The paperboard must also have high resistance to bending, allowing good runnability during conversion. Properties such as flatness and dimensional stability are also important during conversion. [0004] Paperboard used in packaging applications such as packaging for liquid or dry food products must protect the contents from the surrounding environment. Packaging must further pr...
