Problems solved by technology

Many solvent-based sealers leave the material with a wet appearance, but to our knowledge, water-based acrylic sealers do not provide the true wet appearance desired for these substrates
Many products claim to impart a wet look but fail to achieve the desired deepening or enhancement of color
Furthermore, the products exhibiting the best wet appearance are often deficient in the desired coating properties for such sealant compositions

Abstract

A water-based coating composition is described herein. The composition includes an aqueous dispersion derived from an ethylenically unsaturated monomer and one or more organic solvents. The composition when applied to a substrate and allowed to dry provides a wet look to the substrate.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims U.S. Provisional Application No. 62 / 134,073, entitled "Water-Based Wet Look Coating Composition," filed March 17, 2015 and filed March 16, 2016 Priority to US Provisional Application No. 62 / 309,201 entitled "Waterborne Wet Look Coating Composition" (Waterborne Wet Look Coating Composition), the entire contents of which are incorporated herein by reference. Background of the invention [0003] Certain substrates, including porous or cementitious substrates such as concrete, brick, block, stone, etc., are often subject to damage from weather and exposure to water. Typically, to avoid such damage, these substrates are sealed by applying a coating composition that prevents water ingress into these materials. Additionally, a coating is typically applied to obtain a certain desired appearance. It is generally desirable for the sealant to provide the appearance or "wet look" of the substrate being wett...
