Abstract

A vehicle includes an electric machine configured to provide propulsion to the vehicle, and a power inverter configured to supply power to the electric machine from a traction battery using first and second switches configured as a half bridge, wherein the first switch is gate pole driver control. The gate driver is configured to: operate in soft-off mode when the load current exceeds the threshold for a period defined by the mask timer; operate in fast-off mode when the load current is below the threshold; and A shutdown request is received after the threshold is exceeded and before the mask timer expires, enabling soft shutdown mode.
