Problems solved by technology

In addition, larger agglomerated particles may settle out of suspension before smaller individual particles and may remain in the drinking container after the liquid is swallowed, making drug dosing within particles difficult to control
When particles adhere in the "downflow" area on the outside of the USTER column of the FBC, the coating droplets do not coat these particles sufficiently to provide an effective coating

Abstract

The invention relates to methods for coating particles characterised by the addition of a powdered excipient, typically during coating. Typically, the coating method comprises Wurster fluidised bed coating. The invention provides a method for coating particles in a coater comprising a coating processing chamber, wherein the particles comprise an active pharmaceutical ingredient, the method comprising: (i) adding particles to the processing chamber; (ii) adding a coating formulation to the processing chamber through a first inlet; and (iii) adding a powdered excipient to the processing chamberthrough a second inlet. The invention further provides coated particles obtainable by the method of the invention, preferably where at least 80% w / w of the coated particles have a particle size rangeof 10-1200 [mu]m. The coated particles are preferably for use in a method of administering an active pharmaceutical ingredient or for use in a method of treating or preventing a disease or condition. The invention further provides a pharmaceutical composition comprising coated particles obtainable by the method of the invention, preferably as part of a liquid formulation for oral administration.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a method for coating granules, characterized in that powdered auxiliary materials are usually added during coating. Typically, the coating method involves fluidized bed coating. This method is particularly suitable for coating microparticles or granules with a coating material that modifies drug release. Background technique [0002] Microparticles are a well-known delivery system for active pharmaceutical ingredients in pharmaceutical formulations. Microparticles comprising one or more active pharmaceutical ingredients can be coated to alter the properties of the microparticles. For example, the granules can be functionally coated (enteric or gastro-resistant) which resists breakdown in the stomach but breaks down in the intestine to release the active drug. The coating can also be configured as sustained release to release the drug over a period of time. Some drugs today are administered in the form of liquid formulations...
