Embodiment Construction

[0038] exist figure 1 A fuel cell arrangement 1 is shown in , which comprises a membrane electrode arrangement 2 arranged in its center, which has a cathode, an anode and a proton-conducting membrane arranged between the cathode and the anode. The membrane electrode arrangement 2 essentially predetermines an active region 3 , which is drawn in the figure by an inner dashed line. The active region 3 extends not only in a plane (x-y plane) but also in the stacking direction (z-direction) of the membrane electrode arrangement 2 , which is directed outwards from the plane of the drawing.

[0039] The active region 3 is that region in which the electrochemical reaction of the fuel cell formed by the membrane electrode arrangement 2 takes place. In the case of this electrochemical reaction, fuel (for example hydrogen) is conducted to the anode where it is catalytically oxidized to protons with the release of electrons. These protons are transferred to the cathode through the ion e...

Abstract

The invention relates to a fuel cell assembly (1) comprising: a membrane electrode assembly (2), which has a cathode, an anode and a membrane provided between the cathode and the anode; an active region (3) predefined substantially by the membrane electrode assembly (2); and a sealing structure (4) associated laterally with the membrane electrode assembly (2). The sealing structure (4) comprises asealing tongue (6), extending in or over an edge region (5) outside the active region (3), for axially gas-tightly covering a media channel (8) that is formed in a neighbouring flow-field plate (7) and is located in the edge region (5). The invention also relates to a cell unit for a fuel cell stack comprising a fuel cell assembly of this type.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a fuel cell arrangement and to a single cell with such a fuel cell arrangement for a fuel cell stack. Background technique [0002] The fuel cell arrangement comprises, in particular, a membrane electrode arrangement comprising a cathode, an anode and a membrane arranged between the cathode and the anode. The active region in which the electrochemical reactions of the fuel cell take place is essentially predetermined by the membrane electrode arrangement or by the dimensions of the membrane electrode arrangement. In this case, the membrane electrode arrangement is laterally assigned a sealing structure which, in particular, ensures that the reaction media can only flow to the places where they are required for the electrochemical reaction. [0003] DE 19703214 C 1 shows a fuel cell arrangement according to the preamble of claim 1 . In this case, the seals are fitted or impregnated to the edges of the cathode and anode of the ...
