[0096] Preparation of inventive composition 1 (TMHAT:NTBAD heteropolymer 85:15 by weight) - in toluene process:

[0097] Composition 1 of the present invention was prepared by mixing 3,5,5-trimethylhexyl acrylate (TMHAT) (85.0 g), N-(tert-butyl)acrylamide (NTBAD) (15.0 g) and toluene (100.0 g) Feed into a 500ml circle equipped with a mechanical stirrer, Claisen (Claisen) adapter and water-cooled condenser and nitrogen inlet (set at 0.2 standard cubic feet per hour (scfh)), thermocouple and stop bottomed flask ("reaction vessel"). This mixture was heated to 70°C and maintained at that temperature until the NTBAD was completely dissolved. Tert-butyl peroxy-2-ethylhexanoate (TBPE) (0.11 g) was added. The mixture was then heated to 90°C and maintained at 90°C for 180 minutes. The temperature was then adjusted to 100°C, and TBPE (0.03 g) was added to the reaction vessel and held for 60 minutes. Similarly, three more aliquots of TBPE (0.03 g each) were fed and allowed to react f...

Abstract

There is disclosed an antifoam component which includes at least one acrylamide polymer for use in a diesel fuel. Acrylamide polymers prepared by polymerizing a (meth)acrylamide monomer to yield a homopolymer or, alternatively, the acrylamide polymer may be prepared by polymerizing a (meth)acrylamide monomer and a (meth)acrylate monomer to yield a heteropolymer.

Description

Background technique [0001] The disclosed technology relates to compounds suitable for use as defoamer components in diesel fuels. In particular, diesel fuel compositions and concentrates comprising said antifoam components and uses of said antifoam components are disclosed. [0002] Diesel fuel tends to foam and is particularly problematic in point-of-sale applications when diesel fuel is pumped into the fuel tank of a vehicle ("refueled"). When diesel fuel is pumped into the tank, a large amount of foam is created rapidly, thereby greatly reducing the amount of diesel fuel that can be pumped into the tank with each refueling. [0003] Reducing the amount of foam generated during refueling would greatly increase the volumetric capacity of diesel tanks, but no viable defoamer options exist in the North American market. Currently, only nitrogen, oxygen, carbon and / or hydrogen ("NOCH") based chemistries are permitted in North American diesel applications. This prevents known ...
