Abstract

Provided are: a novel cosmetic ingredient that gives cosmetics excellent qualities, including water / moisture retention, for use on the hair or the skin; a cosmetic that uses the cosmetic ingredient; and a production method for the cosmetic. This cosmetic ingredient includes an organic ammonium salt that has a hydrogen-bonding functional group in a cation and / or an anion. In a preferable embodiment, the cation is an ammonium cation and is represented by formula (I). In the formula, each R1 independently represents a hydroxyalkyl group or the like that includes at least one hydroxyl group and a C1-10 straight-chain or branched alkyl moiety that may include an oxygen atom, each R2 independently represents a hydrogen atom or a C1-18 straight-chain or branched alkyl group, and n represents an integer from 0 to 4. The formula (I) is N<+>[R1]n[R2]<4-n>.
