Embodiment 1
[0117] A columnar cordierite honeycomb unit having a square of 42 mm, a length of 85 mm, a partition wall thickness of 0.1 mm, and a distance between partition walls of about 1 mm was prepared. A metal wire whose material has a balance of Fe-17% by mass Cr and has a wire diameter of 0.45 mm is wound around the outer peripheral surface of the honeycomb unit. Cordierite honeycombs of the same size that were not wound with wires were bonded to each other with a bonding material around the honeycomb unit wound with wires, thereby producing a bonded body. As the bonding material, a bonding material prepared by mixing cordierite powder with an average particle diameter of 15 μm, alumina fibers with an average length of 200 μm, colloidal silica, and carboxymethyl cellulose was used. Using the honeycomb unit wound with the metal wire as the center of the bonded body, the outer periphery was processed into a cylindrical shape with a diameter of 82 mm to obtain a honeycomb structure.
