Embodiment 1

[0151] The pulverized commercial SAN polymer (composition: 73% mole styrene and 27% mole acrylonitrile) product (sieved to 16-32 mesh size) was reacted with 96% by weight sulfuric acid heated to 100°C for 30 minutes. After the reaction, the gelled product in the system was filtered through a glass filter, washed with water and filtered again. The resulting product was dried at 115° C. for 2 hours in an air circulation type dryer. The elemental analysis of sulfur showed that the sulfonic acid group accounted for 42% mole of the total monomer units. From the measured FT-IR results, it was found that the nitrile groups in the polymer had been converted into amide groups.

Embodiment 2

[0153] Treat in the same manner as in Example 1, but use a commercial ABS polymer (composition: 65 mol% styrene, 25 mol% acrylonitrile and 10 mol% butadiene) passed through a 16-32 mesh sieve React with 90% mole sulfuric acid at 100°C for 30 minutes. From the elemental analysis results of sulfur, it was found that the sulfonic acid groups in the product accounted for 48 mole percent of the total monomer units. From the measured FT-IR results, it was found that the nitrile groups in the polymer had been converted into amide groups.

Embodiment 3

[0155] The transparent part of the discarded 8 mm video tape cassette made of SAN polymer (composition: 60% mole styrene and 40% mole acrylonitrile) was pulverized into 16-32 mesh size, and made in the same manner as in Example 1 The reaction was carried out under the same conditions. The elemental analysis results of sulfur showed that the sulfonic acid group accounted for 37% mole of the total monomer units. From the measured FT-IR results, it was found that the nitrile groups in the polymer had been converted into amide groups.

Abstract

The present invention is relative to a liquid electrolyte absorbing polymer which liquid electrolyte absorbing polymer is comprised of a water-insoluble polymer and of hydrophilic polar groups introduced into the water-insoluble polymer. The liquid electrolyte absorbing polymer is prepared by introducing hydrophilic polar groups to the water-insoluble polymer. A cell is formed using this liquid electrolyte absorbing polymer in dried state and the electrolyte in dried state as constituent units. The liquid electrolyte absorbing polymer and the cell employing the liquid electrolyte absorbing polymer are inexpensive, high in safety and are capable of absorbing plural sorts of the electrolytes simultaneously. The cell employing the liquid electrolyte absorbing polymer of the present invention is free from leakage or vaporization of the liquid electrolyte to outside the cell system and has prolonged shell life until use.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a liquid electrolyte-absorbing polymer consisting of a water-insoluble polymer into which a hydrophilic polar group has been introduced, and a method for preparing the same. The present invention also relates to a method for preparing a water-added battery comprising a dried product of a water-insoluble polymer into which a hydrophilic polar group has been introduced and a dried product of an electrolyte, and a water-added battery. [0002] More specifically, the present invention relates to batteries consisting of modified copolymers and battery precursors consisting of cathode, anode and dielectric liquid, to the battery precursors and to methods of making the batteries. The modified copolymer consists of a polymer comprising constituent units of acrylonitrile on the one hand and at least one of styrene and / or conjugated diene on the other hand, and acidic groups introduced therein.
