System and method for enhancing recorded radio or television programs with information on the world wide web

The present invention is directed to a system, method and computer program for enabling a user (100) (an auditor or a viewer) to access complementary information related to one or a plurality of sequences or topics of interest (102) in a recorded program (103) previously broadcast on the radio or television and played back on a device, such as an audio or video tape or disk recorder/player (104). The preferred embodiment of the invention relates to a system and method for enabling a person (100) listening to or watching a recorded program (103), to select one or a plurality of topics (101) (102) drawing his or her attention and for immediately receiving further information related to these topics from the World Wide Web. The system is based on the synchronization of local times (204) (205) of transmitters (201) and recorders (203). The flow of information transmitted, received and recorded is always synchronized, independently of the relative positions of recorders and transmitters. The synchronization is done referring to an absolute or universal time such as the Global Positioning System Time (GPS-time), the Global Orbiting Navigational Satellite System (GLONASS) time or another suitable universal time based on a satellite system. The GPS or GLONASS receivers are integrated or connected to the broadcasting stations. At the receiver side, GPS or GLONASS receivers may be integrated or connected to the audio or video recorders. The system is also based on a plurality of hyperlinks defined during the production and recording of the broadcast program, for given sequences corresponding to particular intervals of time synchronized with the universal (absolute) time. The hyperlinks are associated wit the information that is broadcast in the program. They can be selected by users during the playback of the recorded program during predefined intervals of time and activated to access additional information and services.

Remote control for a television enabling a user to enter and review a channel selection choice immediately prior to sending an encoded channel selection command to the television

A handheld remote controller device that may be manually programmed while the keypad is conveniently supported in an easy to actuate and readily viewable position in front of a user. Individual keybutton entries are temporarily stored until the entry sequence is complete. Each keybutton entry may be visually displayed for review by the user. When the entry sequence is completed the remote controller device is then aimed at a remotely controlled television set, video tape or video disk player, cable or satellite signal converter. The user initiates a SEND command and the stored entries are retrieved and transmitted from the remote controller device to the receptor of the remotely controlled device as a packet of data which acts to change channel selection or accomplish other tasks in the remotely controlled device. A keybutton entry filter reduces a likelihood for accidental multiple entries which may be caused by tremors and other physical or mental maladies. In this way, physically challenged persons, or elderly persons in particular, may be enabled to utilize a remote control function with less chance for error. When only a single number channel, such as channel 5 is selected, a necessitous leading zero is automatically added to the SEND dispatched command.

Method and system for downloading and storing interactive device content using the horizontal overscan portion of a video signal

A method and system for decoding and storing encoded control data delivered via the horizontal overscan area of a video signal. An interactive device such as an interactive toy performs behavior defined by control data that can be encoded into a video signal that can be broadcast or played-back from video tape. The interactive device is equipped with a non-volatile memory that permits the control data to be stored for performance subsequent to the transmission session (e.g., a televised program). The interactive device also may be equipped to perform behavior during the transmission session. The control data is delivered as a series of control data words that include genus codes and sequence codes. Genus codes identify the interactive device to which the data word is directed, so that a particular interactive device will respond (i.e., perform behavior) only in accordance with the control data words including the appropriate genus code. Because video transmissions are subject to video signal deterioration, error grading is used to minimize the effect of such signal deterioration. During a given control data transmission session, control data words will be repeated, so that an interactive device receives several control data words with the same sequence number. Based on the relative gradings, the interactive device will replace previously received control data words of lower quality than subsequently received data words having the same sequence number.

Remote server management device

A computer system includes a bus, remote console logic, a remote server management device, and an interrupt routing switch. The bus has a first interrupt line. The remote console logic has a second interrupt line and is coupled to the bus. The remote console logic is adapted to monitor video transactions present on the bus. The video transactions include video data. The remote console logic is further adapted to store the video data and provide an interrupt signal on the second interrupt line if the amount of stored video data reaches a predetermined threshold. The remote server management device is coupled to the bus and the first interrupt line. The interrupt routing switch is coupled to the first interrupt line and the second interrupt line and adapted to couple the second interrupt line to the first interrupt line. A method for capturing video transactions includes coupling a first interrupt line of a buffer to a shared interrupt line of a bus. Video transactions occurring on the bus are snooped. The video transactions include video data. At least a portion of the video data is stored in the buffer. An interrupt signal is generated on the first interrupt line when the amount of data in the buffer reaches a predetermined threshold. The interrupt signal is received on the shared interrupt line in a remote server management device having memory. At least a portion of the video data is stored in the memory in response to the interrupt signal.

A device for holding, storing and displaying various media articles, such as CDs, CD Cases, DVDs, DVD Cases, Audio Cassettes, Audio Cassette Cases, Computer Mini-floppies, Video Cassette, Video Cassette Cases, Books, Magazines, Pictures, Cards and the like. The device is comprised of a single sheet of relatively thin pliable, resilient material, such as a sheet of vinyl, plastic, and the like, within and through said material are cut a plurality of slits, in sets of two or more slits or slit sets. The lower ends of slit sets are spaced apart by a distance which is less than the transverse dimension of an article to be supported or held, while the upper ends are spaced apart at a distance which is greater than the transverse dimension of said article to be supported or held. The lower ends and upper ends of slit sets are longitudinally spaced apart by a distance that is less than the longitudinal dimension of an article to be supported or held. The lower ends of a slit set are even on the horizontal axis while the upper ends of a slit set has at least one slit that is uneven, shorter or offset from at least one other slit on the horizontal axis. When an article is inserted into the space between slits in a slit set, the material deforms to form a compartment that captures or holds a portion of said article. Compartments are formed from a plurality of slits and/or slit sets and are open-topped/top-loading and are integrally formed with the sheet material. Compartments are capable of receiving at least one article and maintaining the article in an upright position, relatively parallel with the overall plane of the device with at least one part of the article visible for viewing. A slit sets size, shape and spacing is relatively proportional to the size, shape and/or dimensions of the articles thereby forming compatible compartments for the article. A portion of an article is within the compartment and a portion is exposed so as to permit a single article to be easily accessible and grasped by the fingers for easy placement and/or removal there from. The device is mountable to supports, such as a wall, door, and mirror or hung from racks etc.
