Single-chip imager system with programmable dynamic range

The imager system of the invention, provided in a semiconductor substrate, includes a plurality of photosensitive, charge integrating pixels that are arranged in rows and columns of a pixel array for capturing illumination of a scene to be imaged. Each pixel includes a photogenerated charge accumulation region of the semiconductor substrate and a sense node at which an electrical signal, indicative of pixel charge accumulation, can be measured without discharging the accumulation region. Pixel access control circuitry is connected to pixel array rows and columns to deliver pixel access signals generated by the access control circuitry for independently accessing a selected pixel in the array. An input interface circuit is connected to accept a dynamic range specification input for the array pixels. Integration control circuitry is connected to access a selected pixel of the array to read the sense node electrical signal of the selected pixel, and configured to generate pixel-specific integration control signals delivered to the selected pixel, independent of other pixels, based on dynamic range specification input provided by the input interface circuit. An output interface circuit is connected to the pixel array to produce output image data based on sense node electrical signals from the pixel array.

Breath test for the diagnosis of Helicobacter pylori infection in the gastrointestinal tract

A breath test for diagnosing the presence of Helicobacter pylori in a subject is described. The method of diagnosing Helicobacter pylori is performed as follows. First, a safe and effective amount of urea, preferably appropriately labelled, is administered to the subject. Second, a plurality of the exhaled breaths of the subject is analyzed to detect the concentration of a cleavage product or products, produced when urease cleaves the substrate. The measured concentrations are then fitted to a curve, and the derivative is then calculated, to indicate the presence or absence of Helicobacter pylori infection in the subject.

Lifetime-sensitive instruction scheduling mechanism and method

An instruction scheduler in an optimizing compiler schedules instructions in a computer program by determining the lifetimes of fixed registers in the computer program. By determining the lifetimes of fixed registers, the instruction scheduler can achieve a schedule that has a higher degree of parallelism by relaxing dependences between instructions in independent lifetimes of a fixed register so that instructions can be scheduled earlier than would otherwise be possible if those dependences were precisely honored.

Table format for map reduce system

A key-value store provides column-oriented access to data in a distributed and fault tolerant manner. Data can be inserted into the data store and data can be retrieved either randomly or sequentially from the data store at high rates. Keys for a table are ordered and the entire table is divided into key ranges. Each key range is handled by a table which itself is divided into key ranges called a partition. Partitions are also divided into segments. Such recursive division into smaller and smaller key ranges provides parallelism. At the highest level, operations on tablets can be distributed to different nodes. At lower levels, different threads can handle operations on individual segments. Large-scale restructuring operations can be decomposed into operations on individual segments so that a global lock on larger objects does not need to be kept across the entire operation.

Systems and methods for securing wireless communications

Systems and methods of friendly jamming for securing wireless communications at the physical layer are presented. Under the assumption of exact knowledge of the eavesdropping channel, a resource-efficient distributed approach is used to improve the secrecy sum-rate of a multi-link network with one or more eavesdroppers while satisfying an information-rate constraint for all links. A method based on mixed strategic games can offer robust solutions to the distributed secrecy sum-rate maximization. In addition, a block fading broadcast channel with a multi-antenna transmitter, sending two or more independent confidential data streams to two or more respective users in the presence of a passive eavesdropper is considered. Lastly, a per-link strategy is considered and an optimization problem is formulated, which aims at jointly optimizing the power allocation and placement of the friendly jamming devices for a given link under secrecy constraints.

Method for matching a golfer with a particular club style

A method is disclosed for matching a test golfer with a particular golf club selected from a group of golf clubs having a plurality of styles. The method utilizes data set derived in an initial procedure in which the club style preferences for each of a large number of pre-test golfers is recorded and correlated with a set of performance parameters for the golf swings of such pre-test golfers. This data enables the pre-test golfers to be classified into subgroups, in which golfers within the same subgroup generally prefer the same club style and golfers in different subgroups generally prefer different club styles. After this data set has been established, the test golfer takes a golf swing with a golf club, while performance parameters for the swing are measured. Based on the measured performance parameters and the previously established data set, the test golfer is classified according to swing type, and the optimum golf-club is then selected from the plurality of styles of golf clubs.

Providing motion feedback based on user center of mass

The present disclosure is directed to a body-worn sensor-based system for evaluating the biomechanics and the motor adaptation characteristics of postural control during a sport activity such as a golf swing. Various embodiments use sensors such as accelerometers, gyroscopes, and magnetometers to measure the three-dimensional motion of ankle and hip joints. In several embodiments, additional sensors attached to other body segments are used to improve the accuracy of the data or detect particular instants during the swing (e.g., top of back swing, instant of the maximum speed of arm, and instant of ball impact). In a golf embodiment, the system combines the measured data in conjunction with a biomechanical model of the human body to: (1) estimate the two-dimensional sway of the golfer's center of mass; (2) quantify and evaluate the golfer's balance via his / her postural compensatory strategy; and (3) provide visual feedback to the golfer for improving dynamic postural control.

An in-line hardware message filter device inspects incoming securities transactions. The invention is implemented as an integrated circuit (IC) device which contains computer code in the form of on-chip hardware instructions. Data messages comprising orders enter the device in exchange-specific formats. Messages that satisfy pre-determined risk assessment filters are allowed to pass through the device to the appropriate securities exchange for execution. The system functions as a passive device for all legitimate network traffic passing directly or indirectly between a customer's computer and a securities exchange's order-acceptance computer. Advantageously, the invention allows the broker-dealer to check and pass messages or orders as they come through the system without having to store the full message before making a risk assessment decision. The hardware-only nature of the invention serves to maximize the speed of order validation and to perform pre-trade checks in a cut-through or store-and-forward mode.
