Embodiment

[0081] The following components are used in the examples of this application:

[0082] Isocyanate A: An allophanate based on IPDI and isobutanol was prepared by reacting 3148 grams (28.3 equivalents) of IPDI with 172 grams (2.3 equivalents) of isobutanol. The NCO content of the allophanate obtained was 30.1%. Then, a prepolymer of allophanate was prepared by adding 196 g (2.0 equivalents) of trimethylolpropane to the above allophanate. The NCO content of the prepolymer obtained was 25.9% by weight.

[0083] Polyol A: Polyether polyol having a nominal functionality of about 3, an OH number of about 28, and a molecular weight of about 6000, comprising the reaction product of glycerol and propylene oxide, capped with ethylene oxide, in the presence of a KOH catalyst be made of.

[0084] EG: Ethylene glycol

[0085] Catalyst A: Dimethyltin dilaurate catalyst, available from GE Silicones as Fomrez UL-28

[0086] Catalyst B: 1,8-diazobicyclo(5.4.0)undec-7-ene, availab...

Abstract

This invention relates to polyurethane elastomers and to a process for their production. These elastomers comprise the reaction product of a polyisocyanate component comprising an allophanate modified (cyclo)aliphatic polyisocyanate which has an NCO group content of about 15 to about 35% or a prepolymer thereof, with an isocyanate-reactive component comprising one or more polyether polyols which is free of amine groups, and a low molecular weight organic compound containing two hydroxyl groups and which is free of amine groups, in the presence of one or more catalysts.

Description

Background of the invention [0001] The present invention relates to a polyurethane elastomer with improved weather resistance and a production method thereof. [0002] The production of polyurethane molded articles by reaction injection molding (ie RIM) technology is well known and described, for example, in US Patent 4,218,543. The RIM method involves a mold-filling technique by which highly active liquid starting components are mixed in a very short time using high-output, high-pressure metering equipment after they have been mixed in a so-called "fully controlled mixing head" Inject into the mold. [0003] In the production of polyurethane moldings by the RIM process, the reaction mixture generally comprises a part A based on a polyisocyanate and a part B based on an organic compound containing isocyanate-active hydrogen atoms, and suitable chain extenders, catalysts, Foaming agents and other additives. Polyisocyanates suitable for commercial RIM processes are aromatic i...
