Embodiment 1

[0085] A slurry of 215 g of perlite (average particle size 30 μm) in 1785 mL of distilled water was heated to 83° C. and the pH was adjusted to 1.4 with HCl. Then add 50g of 20% SnCl at 3.2g / min 4 solution, the pH was maintained with NaOH. After stirring for 60 minutes, add 36 g of 40% TiCl at 3 g / min 4 solution, the pH was maintained with NaOH. The pH was then raised to 3.0 with NaOH, after which 39% FeCl was added at 1.2 g / min 3 solution, the pH was maintained with NaOH. Add 320g of FeCl 3 Afterwards, the slurry was filtered, washed and calcined at 850 °C. Such as figure 1 As shown, the resulting product has a bronze color.

Embodiment 2

[0087] In addition to adding 335g of FeCl 3 Otherwise, this example was carried out like Example 1. Such as figure 2 As shown, the obtained product has copper interference color.

Embodiment 3

[0089] In addition to adding 360g of FeCl 3 Otherwise, this example was carried out like Example 1. Such as image 3 As shown, the resulting product has a reddish-brown interference color.

Abstract

The present disclosure relates to a method of making coated perlite flakes comprises: (i) providing perlite flakes; (ii) applying a layer of tin oxide on the perlite flakes to obtain tin oxide coated perlite flakes; (iii) applying a layer titanium dioxide on the tin oxide coated perlite flakes obtained in step (ii) to obtain titanium dioxide and tin oxide coated perlite flakes; and (iv) applying a layer of iron oxide to the titanium dioxide and tin oxide coated perlite flakes to obtain the coated perlite flakes. The present disclosure also relates to coated perlite flakes comprising: perlite flakes with layer of tin oxide, then a layer of titanium dioxide, and then a layer of iron oxide.

Description

field of invention [0001] The invention relates to effect pigments which are coated perlite flakes comprising perlite flakes with a tin oxide layer, then a titanium dioxide layer, then an iron oxide layer. Background of the invention [0002] Effect pigments are based on the use of layered substrates such as mica or perlite flakes which have been coated with a metal oxide layer. These pigments can exhibit a pearly luster due to the reflection and refraction of light and, depending on the thickness of the metal oxide layer, they can also exhibit interference color effects. [0003] DE 10 2005 025 609 discloses non-metallic pigment mixtures with high metallic brilliance for use, for example, in cosmetics, lacquers and colours, which comprise gold interference pigments and also silver-white, silver-gray and black-gray interference pigments. [0004] EP1469042 discloses a pigment mixture comprising a component A comprising effect pigments based on glass flakes and a component B...
