Embodiment Construction

[0048] The present invention provides a secondary biological wastewater treatment unit incorporating a pipe-in-pipe design. The compact design of the unit reduces the footprint required for installation. Furthermore, the unit of the present invention is modular and mobile, thus increasing usability and versatility of use. The unit of the present invention provides enhanced wastewater treatment. All of these factors contribute to the ability to provide a wastewater treatment unit with lower CAPEX and lower OPEX required for wastewater treatment plants. The inventive unit can be placed on a trailer or truck and can be moved to or near a source of organic or chemical waste. In most petrochemical plants, refineries and chemical units, concentrated forms of organic or chemical waste (usually concentrated chemical solvent-based waste) are discharged into interceptors after generation to prevent discharge (often illegally) and pollute natural water bodies. Concentrated waste is d...

Abstract

A method for treating wastewater containing organic contaminants is disclosed. Wastewater containing organic contaminants is fed into an outer pipe of a pipe-in-pipe assembly, wherein the outer pipe concentrically surrounds an inner pipe. Oxygen is fed into the inner pipe which is rotatably mounted and is provided with openings, thereby to provide different sizes of oxygen bubbles to the outer pipe. The oxygen is dispersed into an annular portion between the outer pipe and the inner pipe thereby contacting the wastewater with oxygen; and the thus treated wastewater is collected. The inner pipemay be a tunable membrane material, and the outer pipe may have a biocatalyst material present on its inner surface.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims priority to US Provisional Application Serial Nos. 62 / 396,285, 62 / 396,289, 62 / 396,298, and 62 / 396,304, filed September 19, 2016. Background technique [0003] The present invention relates to an improved unit for secondary wastewater treatment which is compact, modular and mobile. The enhanced design of the wastewater treatment unit of the present invention is achieved through better oxygen utilization, higher rates of oxygen dispersion in the wastewater, and recirculation of unreacted gases (eg, oxygen). This provides a system that reduces the CAPEX and OPEX of the wastewater treatment facility. Reduces CAPEX by facilitating the utilization and mixing of oxygen and allowing greater dispersion of oxygen into the wastewater. OPEX can be reduced because the system of the present invention requires less power consumption associated with mixing and moving wastewater in traditional large wastewater t...
